Autumn in Michigan brings many memory-making moments for staff and students to enjoy together and for families to make warm memories. It feels as though the earth is waiting for the right moment to explode in brilliant color. While the seasons are changing, the constant here has been one of commitment, appreciation, thankfulness, and gratitude to all in our wonderful community of learners.
THANK YOU!

The temperatures have dropped and the weather will start getting cold very soon. Please make sure your children have proper attire for the cold temps. We will be going outside unless temperatures are below "feels Like" 20 degrees or the weather is hazardous (ice or large amounts of snow) on the playground. Proper attire is required to play in the snow (hats, boots, and gloves). We will be going outside, even if it is snowing.
If your child is in need of assistance in obtaining warmer clothing, coats, hats, mittens/gloves, etc..., please contact the main office at 734-783-5386

Our Fall Book Fair will be Monday, November 17 – Friday, November 21. Students will have the opportunity to shop during scheduled times that week. We will also be open during conferences on Thursday, November 20th for parents and grandparents to stop by the library to shop. Bring the whole family to see all the exciting books that will be offered!
Visit our Book Fair homepage, https://www.scholastic.com/bf/gudithelementaryschool, to set up an e-wallet for your child to use while shopping and browse the selection of books that will be offered by clicking on “preview the fair”. You can also send in cash or come in to shop with your child during evening conferences. Please don’t forget there is sales tax on all purchases, so send in a little extra to cover the tax.
During the Book Fair, we will also have a loose change collection. Every child who donates change will get their name in a drawing to win a FREE poster. All money collected will help purchase new books for the library.

WBSD Visitor/Volunteer Management System
Please have your ID with you when you come to visit us!
Our number one priority at Gudith is the safety of our students, staff, and visitors. To make our building safe, we have installed a Visitor Management System. Each time a visitor or volunteer arrives, they are required to immediately report to the main office to scan their identification and receive a visitor's/volunteer badge before they are permitted to enter.
The visitor management system is used to verify the identity of a visitor, keep track of check-in and check-out times, and print custom visitor labels. It also provides a consistent system to track visitors and volunteers across the district.

Do I need to fill out an application to qualify for Michigan School Meals? YES!
As a household, you are responsible for completing the Educational Benefits Form (EBF). Without this information, our district could lose important state and federal funding for educational programs that our students are entitled to.

We love celebrating our students’ birthdays and making them feel special! To keep our classroom safe, healthy, and inclusive for all children, we will no longer be accepting food or edible birthday treats. Instead, we will celebrate birthdays in fun, non-food ways — such as:
The birthday child is wearing a special crown
The class will sing the birthday song
Choosing a favorite book to bring from home/or choosing one in our class to be read aloud
Please know that we will be sure to make each student feel very special on their day!

The Zones of Regulation ("The Zones")
Gudith Staff and Student will be participating in The Zones of Regulation curriculum, which are lessons to help them gain skills in the area of self-regulation. Self-regulation is defined as the best state of alertness of both the body and emotions for a specific situation. The lessons and learning activities are designed to help the students recognize when they are in the different zones as well as learn how to use strategies to change or stay in the zone they are in.

Morning Line Up and Afternoon Pick Up Procedures
|
|
|
When dropping off and picking up students, we ask you to observe the following safety procedures:
Arrival:
The drop-off lane is open. This is our KISS & GO ZONE. Pull up next to the sidewalk to let your student out of your vehicle from the passenger side ONLY!
If your student needs assistance exiting the car, you MUST park your car in the lot and walk your student to the front of the school to ensure a safe crossing from the parking lot.
Please do not drop off your students in the parking lot or the second lane of traffic. Students should not be permitted to walk past parked or moving cars unescorted.
All students will have outdoor lineup locations marked by teacher names or grade levels. Please refer to the map to find your line-up location. We will line up outside each day except when it is actively raining or the temperature drops below “feels like 20 °”
Students riding the bus will report to their grade level staging area as they exit the bus
Only students needing breakfast will be permitted into the building before the bell.
Dismissal:
All students who are getting picked up will be escorted to their outside staging locations. Parents should pick up their student from these staging areas and escort them to their car
No student will be allowed to leave the sidewalk unescorted.
Do not call your student to your car if you are parked in the main lot
Students riding the bus will be staged in the GYM and escorted to their bus as it arrives.
Early Pick Up
-
Please come into the office to sign out your student!
-
Anyone who picks up your child MUST be on your Emergency Contact List.
If you must pick up your student early, plan to pick them up prior to 3:30 pm; however, every effort should be made to alleviate this growing issue by honoring the school schedule.
