Board Approvals Advancing District Goals

New Staff Hires

Please join me in welcoming two new staff members to the WBSD family!

  • Zachary Robinson (Woodhaven High School graduate & Western Michigan alum) will be joining Erving Elementary as a Physical Education teacher.

  • Kennya Salinas (Eastern Michigan alum) is coming on board as a Speech and Language Pathologist.

  • The Board also approved several Schedule B coaching and extracurricular assignments for the upcoming school year — all part of getting ready for a strong start to 2025-26.

Career & Technical Education Investment:

We’re proud to reaffirm our commitment to career and technical education. The Board approved updates to the Downriver Career Technical Consortium agreement, helping to support a new shared facility (the former Trenton Athletic Club) that will benefit students across all nine member districts.

Facilities Improvement - WHS Tennis Court Lighting

We’re continuing to improve our learning and activity spaces. The Board approved a lighting upgrade for the tennis courts at Woodhaven High School. This will improve safety and allow for extended use by both students and the community — all funded through our sinking fund.

Technology Enhancement - Interactive Display Management

To improve how we manage our interactive displays in classrooms and enhance emergency alert integration, the Board approved the purchase of Boxlight management software. This investment will be covered by the general fund technology budget and will support both instruction and school safety.

Summer Learning Highlights

Assistant Superintendent Josh Satterfield also shared an exciting look at our summer learning programs:

  • Over 300 elementary students are staying engaged through enrichment activities, ThinkStretch check-ins, and strong progress in math and reading.

  • Middle and high school students are taking part in credit recovery and essential standards instruction, with many already on track for success.

  • Our students in the GM Student Corps are gaining real-world experience through community service projects, college visits, and leadership training — what a great way to prepare for the future!

Through various state and federal grants, the WBSD Summer Learning Program amounts to a $500,000 investment in the continued enrichment and engagement of our children.
