Board Approvals Advancing District Goals

New Staff Hires

Please join me in welcoming the following individuals as important members of our paraprofessional support staff!

  • Carley Cates (Erving GSRP), Kevin Jeffery (Gudith IP), Heather Johnson (Wegienka IP), Denise Konwinski (Wegienka IP), Bianca Meadows (Bates IP), Zharia Newton (Erving IP), and Catherine-Lyn Tyler (Wegienka IP).

  • The Board also approved several Schedule B coaching and extracurricular assignments for the school year.

Brownstown Middle School Pool

The BMS swimming pool will be offline for the next several months as we bring much needed upgrades to the pool surface, deck, lighting, diving, and timing systems. While it is unfortunate to not have the BMS swimming pool available for a short period of time, the good news is that in the very near future, our students will have a space that is virtually brand new for physical education and competitive swimming.

Overnight/Out-of-State Field Trips

The Board approved nine student trip proposals for the 2025–26 school year. These experiences include 5th and 6th grade camps, state and world Robotics Championships, cross-country meets, fine arts competitions, and college program tours. Each of these opportunities is more than just a trip—they represent an extension of classroom learning and a commitment to our district’s mission to Engage, Enlighten, and Empower. By participating, our students build teamwork, resilience, and real-world connections that prepare them to Learn and Lead for Tomorrow.

Centegix School Safety Initiative

We are pleased to share information about Centegix, our newly adopted safety platform, as part of our ongoing commitment to protect every person in our buildings. The Board of Education has made this significant investment because nothing is more important than the safety and security of our students and staff.

  • Immediate Help When It Matters Most — Every staff member will soon have access to the CrisisAlert wearable badge. With a simple single-button activation, alerts go out instantly. This system doesn’t depend on WiFi or cellular service, helping ensure help is available everywhere on campus—even in areas with weak signal.

  • Precision in Response — When an alert is sent, staff and emergency responders see exactly where on campus the request came from (floor, room, etc.), along with a digital campus map that shows safety resources like AEDs and exit points. This precision means responses can be faster, more efficient, and better coordinated.

  • Robust Visitor & Volunteer Security — Anyone entering our schools will be required to check in using Centegix’s Visitor Management system. IDs will be scanned and compared against the National Sex Offender Registry and any custom “No-Go” lists. Volunteers will undergo background checks that are streamlined yet thorough, ensuring we know who is in our buildings and who has been vetted.

  • Real-Time Oversight & Reporting — The system gives our safety, administrative, and support staff powerful tools: real-time alerts when issues arise, detailed logs of visitor activity, automated tracking of tardies/early releases, and reports that help us spot patterns.

  • Emergency Reunification Made Safer — In the unlikely event of evacuation or emergency, Centegix provides a digital roster that allows us to account for all students, mark them safe, and ensure they are reunited efficiently and properly with approved caregivers.

Training and installation are concluding now, with full implementation expected in early October. We believe that through Centegix, we’re adopting a leading-edge, layered safety solution—one that sends a clear message: your child’s safety is our top priority.
