WUE UPDATES WITH MR. GURGANUS

Happy Wednesday WUE Students and Families!

We hope you all have a great Thanksgiving Break! Next week starts our 15 days of giving and much more so make sure you check out everything below. On Thursday of next week, we will also be having a Lions Celebration Day to get ready for Thursday Night Football, so we are asking students to wear their Lions’ gear and colors on Thursday.

Coats for Students:
If your child needs a coat for the winter, please see the information below on how you can get one for them for free.

Picture Retakes:
We have picture retakes on Wednesday. If your child needs their picture taken because they were not here or because the picture did not turn out like you hoped, they will take that picture on Wednesday. Place orders at schoolpictures.com and enter the code: AA7803Fall24

15 Days of Giving Celebration:
At the WUE, December is all about giving. Below you will see a calendar of all of the different giving opportunities that we will have available in December. From Toys for Tots to the Woodhaven Animal Shelter, we are focusing on giving here at the WUE. Watch this video right here for more details on the event and how you can get connected.

5th Grade Camp:
We have information meetings coming up about 5th grade camp. See below for the dates and times for your House.

We will be having information meetings for 5th Grade Camp in December.
Houses A & B will have their meeting on Mon Dec 2nd at 7pm.
Houses C & D will have their meeting on Mon Dec 16th at 7pm.
These are not mandatory meetings, but a great way to gain more info on end of the year camps.

STUDENT CONNECTION OPPORTUNITIES

The Warrior Charity Club is a new opportunity for students at WUE to get involved in giving back to the community run by Mrs. McCollum. Open to all students, the club partners with local organizations like the Woodhaven Kiwanis Club to complete service projects throughout the year. Our goal is to make a positive impact by doing projects every 1-2 months. If your child is interested in joining, they can sign up to receive updates and notifications by filling out this Google Form.

COUNSELING & SOCIAL WORK CORNER

Welcome to Woodhaven Upper Elementary! We are excited to be your child’s counseling team this year. We were both previously School Counselors at Patrick Henry Middle School and are excited for this new adventure.

Additionally, we both have 5th grade students at home with us so we understand the developmental stage of this age group. While we work closely together, we will be splitting students alphabetically.

Mrs. Shockley works at the front of the counseling office as our Counseling/Attendance Administrative Assistant.

If you have any attendance questions, she will be your contact.

RESOURCE SECTION

BIRTHDAYS - We ask you to consider NON-FOOD treats such as pencils, stickers, or small trinkets. However, If you choose to provide a food treat, please observe the following...

Treats must be provided for ALL students in the class.
All treats must be store-bought in the original packaging material and individually wrapped. NO BAKERY CUPCAKES!
All treats must have labels identifying the ingredients used to make the treats.
Please note that individual classrooms may prohibit certain items due to health or food allergies
Please know that whether a treat is sent in or not, we will be sure to make each student feel very special on their day!

Birthday treats should be arranged with your child's teacher at least a couple of days in advance.

Lunches:

All families are encouraged to complete the Education Benefits Form for the Michigan School Meals Program. Families that qualify for free and reduced meals are eligible for additional benefits including discounts for pay to play, access for computer WIFI, college application fees, and standardized testing fees.

Please note that students who reside in households that do not qualify for free or reduced meals due to income will still receive free school meals in the 2024/25 school year.
